Update on Sgt. Collin Raaz from Iowa City

Holiday Greetings all from Sue Terveer-Mullins and My Yellow Ribbon...

I wanted to send an update to all of you on Sgt. Collin Raaz, our dear (second son) and childhood friend of our son's Nate & Evan, who lost both of his legs in an IED explosion in Afghanistan on June 15., 2011. He remains in San Diego and is continuing with his rehab.; learning to walk and maneuver stairs with his long computerized prosthetic legs.  He recently got his license to drive his car, now outfitted with hand controls-which is a big sign of "freedom" for him!  He is my "Person of the Year" for sure...we are so proud of Collin.

The San Diego Sign On (a subsidiary of the San Diego Tribune) is currently doing a week long series of articles and photos of Collin...following his progress from the accident until now.  I encourage you to read and share his story with others!!  It is quiet sobering to hear of his trials, but yet very uplifting to see how this remarkable young man is persevering through adversity.  Here is the link to the articles in San Diego Sing On. Just click on each chapter from the first article.

Merry Christmas and a blessed 2012!

  1. Such an inspiring blog you have here! My brother just came home from Iraq and earned several military ribbons. It is amazing what these men and women sacrifice so we can live in peace and safety. I hope Collin continues to recover well and that his family is blessed. Keep up the amazing work on your blog.
